Timber
At Stourhead we have taken forestry very seriously since the 18th century. This means that we now have high quality timber in a wide range of native and introduced tree species. Our conifers include Douglas fir, spruce, larch, western red cedar and western hemlock, while the broadleaves are particularly oak and ash, with beech, sweet chestnut, alder and sycamore also.
Most timber is sold as round logs to local sawmills and processors.
Each year we slab our best hardwood logs, which are air dried on the estate. Some of this timber is used in Nick Hoare's handmade furniture.
